“Keep your posture and don’t forget to step hop – standard with style and swing!”

123… 123… Step hop, step hop! – Anyone who happened to pass by the sports hall at Leipziger Platz on May 10, 2025, might have thought that a rhythmic code was being rehearsed there – or that someone had mistaken the dance floor for a trampoline. Of course, that wasn’t the case. This time, the Standard workshop with Udo Rosanski, where not only sweat was involved, but also wit, knowledge and enthusiasm were used.

Three hours long – from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Udo took over with his concentrated dance skills. The day began gently with a warm-up of all five standard dances. Afterwards it was said: Show your attitude! And literally.

With lots of charm and a keen eye for detail Udo explained why arms shouldn’t just dangle uselessly at the side while dancing and how a couple moves together on the floor. Understandable, vivid and always with a suitable image or a laugh on your lips.

After that, things got crazy. Viennese waltz was on the agenda, and it was quite something. Udo explained the movement sequences from the ankle to the head with great precision. Of course, always with exercises that even the most dizzy-looking person had a hard time doing.

To get rid of the same, after a short break we continued quickly with the Quickstep – or as we say: the most joyful way to accidentally run through the hall. The focus was on the Step Hop and that Polka ChasséAnyone who thought quickstep was just fast was proven wrong: Fast, light-footed, precise – and still looking charming? Challenge accepted! Udo accompanied all the couples with humor and helpful tips so that hopping turned into real dancing.

As a crowning finale, Udo insisted on Slow Waltz to the dance floor – including the demanding sequence of figures Fallaway Slip Pivot. Here it became really elegant again. Despite tired legs, the couples showed what they are capable of and at the end they spun almost weightlessly across the floor.

After three hours of Turn, drag, swipe, hold and hop All participants were able to enjoy new insights, a few muscle groups on alert and, above all, a huge portion of joy in dancing.

A very heartfelt thank you to Udo Rosanski, who, with competence, humor, and a lot of passion, turned a workshop into a true dance experience! We’re really looking forward to welcoming you back in two weeks – until then: Keep your composure – and keep dancing!
